Report
Norton Live Update is the program responsible for downloading updates
for all other Norton products such as Norton Antivirus, Systemworks, Personal
Firewall, Ghost and, yes, even LiveUpdate itself. Unfortunately it has
also has bugs and issues that can lead to update errors and other problems
(such as error LU1875). This download will address some current problems
and add the following features:
support for Windows Vista
Fixed a problem where earlier upgrade may cause the appearance of error
LU1875 "This update failed during its preprocessing welcome text
phase". You may get stuck in a loop that everytime your run Live
Update it keeps saying the same error LU1875 - this download will break
you out of the frustrating loop.
Logging & Diagnostics Enhancements
Improvements in Product Integration Support
Improvements in Network Bandwidth Utilization
Enhanced update selection. The LiveUpdate client is now better able to
determine which updates it needs to download. The LiveUpdate catalog file
of available updates can now contain more details about the intended target
for each update and only download an update if it meets the target criteria.
For example, an update may only be required if a user is running on a
specific Service Pack of an operating system, or if they have a particular
version of a component installed on their machine. This evaluation is
performed by the LiveUpdate client and no information is ever sent to
Symantec.
Support for Intel Active Management Technology
Enhanced Error Support. Most LiveUpdate error messages now include links
to more comprehensive error details and resolutions. The Enhanced Error
Support web site links can be accessed by clicking on the area around
the 'Click here for more information' text on error dialogs and messages.
Uninstall support and cleanup. Some Symantec products may now remove LiveUpdate
from your machine if LiveUpdate determines that no other Symantec products
remain on the machine. In addition, when LiveUpdate is uninstalled it
will also remove any old log files and old configuration files from the
machine.
'No Proxy' option. An option has been added to tell LiveUpdate not to
use a Proxy server when retrieving updates via FTP and HTTP.
'Do not manage my Dial-up Networking connections' option. This option
should be used if you do not want LiveUpdate to manage your Dial-up Networking
connection to the Internet. Note that when you select this option, LiveUpdate
will not automatically close any Dial-up Networking connections that it
may have created to connect to the Internet.
